Dog Heroes of September 11th

Nona Kilgore Bauer did an amazing job collecting and portraying the stories of 77 handlers and their SAR dogs who responded following the September 11th attacks.  Bay Area Recovery Canines Alley, Cassy, and Red are three of those amazing dogs who helped bring closure to families by searching through the Pentagon debris under the direction of DC Metropolitan PD K9 officers and the FBI.

Below are BARC related excerpts - they are just a few of the many heartwarming stories told in this book.

Man and best friend have stories to share

By Carol Memmott, USA TODAY

"Dog Heroes of September 11th by Nona Kilgore Bauer (Bowtie Press). No one would guess that Ego Alley and Red, two black Labradors rolling around on the floor of the Washington Convention Center at last month's BookExpo America, played a critical role in recovery after a plane crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. More than 70 search and recovery dogs are featured in this tribute to canine heroes. August."
