We would like to thank the following sponsors and supporters for donating cash or equipment to support our volunteer search and rescue/recovery efforts:

  •   All the individuals who have donated cash at events or sent check donations to BARC
  •   AKC Companion Animal Recovery (CAR) Canine Support & Relief Fund provided a generous check for needed equipment and educational opportunities such as attendance at national seminars and certification tests. Check out some of the donated equipment in use...
  •   LaSAR generously donated much needed radios
  •   Additional radios donated by a local fire department as well as their expertise to program all the radios to SAR channels.
  •   The Land of Pure Gold Foundation dedicated a page to Alley after awarding her a generous treatment grant to help with her medical bills.
  •   Search and Rescue Assist - Thank you SARA for providing teams with a fantastic training site which includes rubble piles and an agility course
  •   Reflective Plate - Artwerkz: graphics, stickers, reflective materials, patches, etc
  •   The Hungry Puppy (Farmingdale, NJ) supports BARC through a monetary donation as well as offering to help with a future fundraising opportunity at their NJ store location.  Please visit their store or shop online for pet foods and supplies for all animals small or large.
  •   Tracker Boats at the Bass Pro Shops in Arundel Mills Mall (MD) - thanks to the Tracker Boat staff and the boat manager's help, BARC was able to obtain our new Grizzly 1648 jon boat for water trainings and search responses.  Many individuals donated to BARC this past year for us to be able to meet this critical equipment need and Tracker's assistance made it a reality.
  •   Brick Town Veterinary Hospital donated veterinary health care products & supplies to the BARC canines.
  •   We want to thank Peggy Johnson, author of the Annapolis Capital's Dog's World, for her support of BARC as well as her dedication to educating dog owners.
  •   The Goddard School in Hanover, MD for their generous donation.

We also need volunteers willing to help us with services or expertise (consulting) to support the organization's mission.  If you can spare a few hours helping with...

  •  grant writing or general fundraising efforts such as contacting companies for donations
  •  accounting & tax issues & compliance (form filings such as the state personal property form)
  •  government paper work (IRS & state filings)
  •  legal services, law issues & consulting
  •  veterinary services or supplies (to defer handler expenses)
  •  marketing skills

We would greatly appreciate any and all help in these areas as our members are dedicated dog handlers who do not have such expertise and must rely on additional resources.  As a 501c3 organization, all time and materials may be considered tax-deductible donations.

...We could always use businesses or clubs wishing to help by...

  •  donating printing services
  •  stores willing to place a donation jar on the counter
  •  event sponsors willing to collect donations on behalf of BARC

...or if you have property we can use for training as SAR canines need to train in a variety of locations and situations such as...

  •  woods/wilderness areas
  •  farms
  •  industrial parks
  •  new or old buildings
  •  warehouses
  •  recycling facilities
  •  concrete or mill facilities
  •  camp grounds
  •  or other vacant land/property

Photo by Jen BidnerBARC is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization which receives tax-deductible donations from individuals, organizations, and corporations to support fielding qualified dogs and handlers for search & rescue or recovery missions.

BARC members have responded to hundreds of searches for local missing persons and disasters as well as national recovery missions such as the Pentagon after the 9-11 attacks, the Space Shuttle Columbia and hurricane Katrina.  Requesting agencies are not charged for our services.  As leading specialists in human remains detection, we also provide monthly open training opportunities as well as formal class instruction to other search & rescue teams, all at no cost to the other teams.  These sessions are attended by members from other SAR units to help educate and train their members, as well as provide them with advanced problems or skill level assessments.

We need your help...

All training and responses are done at the expense of the handlers.  Handlers dedicate approximately 20 hours or more a week to training themselves and their canines for SAR and often use their vacation time off work for SAR activities.  Most gear and equipment is privately owned by the handlers.  They use their personal vehicles to travel to trainings, seminars, demos, and search missions - most are more than two hours away.  The biggest personal expense is the care of their canines.

However to help defer costs in support of our mission, donated funds are used for team equipment & supplies such as radios, GPS units, boat equipment, as well help to defray costs associated with outside seminars and certification tests.  DSC00283.JPG (93141 bytes)Please help us continue to respond when needed by donating.  We need your support.  Thank you!
